Need help please!!

Post by lagwagon21 »

Ok, this problem is on my 93 Civic w a b16a. I took off my IM and TB, cleaned everything and now the car won't idle below 1500rpm, unless I blip the throttle, then it drops to around 900rpm for a couple seconds, then it goes back up to 1500rpm. And it also bogs down/ has no power when I drive it. I replaced the tb gasket, bled the coolant, everything is nice and tight. All of the vac lines are hooked up correctly. I have the idle adjustment screw on the tb all the way in, so it won't go any lower. I am not throwing any codes either. I'm at a loss here. It might be easier to explain over the phone. My number is 618-917-6042

Thanks, Chad

Take your intake off.

There will be 1 or 2 holes (about 3/8" size) on the upper and/or lower sides, in front of the throttle plate.

Plug the hole(s) one at a time and see if anything changes. Top hole is IACV, and lower is FITV ( if you have one ).

If neither of these change anything, you almost certainly have a vacuum leak somewhere. Get some carb cleaner or something and start spraying around to see if the engine changes speed/rpm.

I plugged the lower hole and got nothing, guess cause the car was warm? I plug the upper(IACV) and I feel the vacuum, but the car doesn't die, it just idles down a bit. I am taking everything off again and gonna have to use some silicone. Would a bad enough vac leak make the car run like a turd and have no power at all?

I went through it all again. Retorqued the IM nuts and everything else. Rechecked the IACV and checked that it works by putting power to it(the valve clicked). I removed the FITV and rechecked that it was tight. I am waiting for the silicone to dry then I am going to check the voltage on the TPS and fire it back up. Hope it works.

My vac leak was from the bottom of the FITV. Sealed up ok for now, but I am trying to find another TB without the FITV because it is a PITA!!!!
