Swap questions...

Post by Bad Bowtie »

Alright so I've been in search of a nice cheap daily for a while now, and I am open to anything but I'd really like to have a Honda. I've been looking over craigslist for a while, and notice a good amount of the cars have blown motors and no motors at all. I've done some searching around here in the FS section and the forum as a whole but would like solid answers as well. So that brings me to my questions:

-Where do you guys usually find the motors used for swaps? I'm assuming this site & other Honda sites, but would junkyards have them as well?

-How much does an average swap run? Assuming all I need is a motor (maybe an ECU as well). I wouldn't be looking for any high performance from any motor, keep it bone stock seeing as I have a "fast" (not really) car already, but don't want a dog either. A ballpark $xx-xxx figure will suffice here.

I'd also like to know what works in what car, but I'll get around to asking that when I find perfect candidates in both the car and motors. If you guys know of either a motor or car as a good candidate for me let me know. Any help is appreciated. Trying to keep it as low budget as possible (any big paint defects=flat or satin black lol). I've heard I can both and get the car moving for $1,000 or less.

FWIW, here are a few examples of things I've been interested in:

Anywhere from $200 to $2,000. It depends on who you know and what you're swapping.

It's very possible to put together a car for under $1,000. But like I said, it depends on who you know and if you can find deals at the right time.

Good to know. I saw that a few of the high dollar motors and prices being tossed around (I'm just learning whats what really). Just an average motor would suffice.

A civic would be my first choice, but the prelude was cheap too lol. I saw that info about the civic, I was giving examples though. If I sell my car in the spring for what I'd like to, then I'll just buy a DD already put together for ~2k. Ideally a civic with a shit ton of miles on it, but runs good, few problems and a 5 speed.
