UPDATED_6_5_10: y7 to y8 mani TROUBLE

Post by bemberg2 »

UPDATE:

PHOTO:
1) I'm replacing the mani gasket and want to know what this hole is? I think its the location for the mounting bracket (which I don't have).
2) Are these the holes you were talking about Midori? What do i have to do with these?
3) Do I need to cap off any of these other holes on the mani itself?

THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP.

first off, i've looked all over and seen 100 possible reasons for why this could be happening and have tried several things but to no avail.

i swapped over the intake manifolds 97 civic y7 manual to 96 civic y8 auto (i think). NOW there is NO cel, but the car revs up and down and its not a small bounce but big jumps (2-3000 rpm).

I've heard it could be a vacuum leak, IAVC could be dirty or gasket bad.
but the IACV is off the y7 and should be ok, I don't think there is a vacuum leak and the gaskets look decent.

ANY IDEAS? has this happened to anyone lately. (i searched the site and found a lot of good info that I will try, but was wondering if anyone had any specific advice).

THANKS A LOT, and i really appreciate any help.

chris asked because if its not there are little holes right inside where the injectors sit inside the manifold, and they dont seal against 96-98 heads only 99-00 heads with the cold idle start up bs, if your head has these little holes (You can check by spraying some brake parts cleaner along where the intake meets the head while the car is running) and then use set screws to plug the holes

Spray around the intake manifold with brake parts cleaner if it dies out then your sucking vaccuum from the gasket and it is bad.

The IACV you can spray around as well but it could be dirty and I've also heard of people when swapping making the mistake of putting the Throttle position sensor and map sensor wires backwards which will not cause a cel but a great idle increase/decrease seeing as how they are right there next to each other and the same plug the difference between them being they pull the same voltage but different signals is why they don't create the cell.

Vaccuum lines are easy to track and since there isn't many options can be found quickly.

Hope this helps out a bit, if you took anything from the old manifold to the new make sure as well it's actually bolted on and torqued that way it has the proper seal.

i just tried the "spray cleaner around gaskets trick" and im almost positive the intake mani gasket is no good. could I have not tighted the nuts enough? ALSO HOW bad is it to drive with a bad intake mani gasket?

Automatic intakes do not have the iacv on the back of the intake it's on the tb and it's a three wire hook up like the y7 one. And i would re tighten the nuts on the im to see if it helps and no it's not hurting anything if the gaskets bad... It just obviously needs to be replaced
