Integra catback(straight pipe) exhaust question, all welcome to answer

Post by J.M.P »

OK, I am going to be getting into an exhaust system here real soon. I am going to do a header and hiflow cat. I was going to do the catback straight pipe( in aluminum), having a shop up the street from me build it for my car.

My question is, will the straight pipe be bad or affect anything being my motor is stock, and wll be that way for quite some time? I imagine it will be louder, that is ok. Or should I just do a catback with a muffler.

Thoughts, especially if anyone has done aluminum on a honda, I have seen, heard on srt-4's and sound great, but that is with built motors? Any help greatly appreciated,

Thanks,
James

Only advice I can give you is if you to striaght pipe with no cat it's illegal.

Another thing is depending on your year will it pass emissions

I already know it will be illegal, Its going to have a cat, just no muffler if I do the straight pipe.

Its a 98, I know when come times I would have to put it back to stock for it to pass. I'm not worried about that stuff.

Oh ok....I did the same thing on my xB when I had it and let's say loud!

If you don't mind the loudness then that way will be super easy. Or you can dynamat the car under your carpet and that should help a bit

So the idea is header, stock cat, and straight pipe to a tip of some kind? With 2.5 piping, might sound pretty cool. And if not, you can always add a resonator.

Here iw what I was going to do.

-Header
-Cat(was going to do high flow cat)
-Straight pipe from the cat back in aluminum, no special tips or anything, just run the pipe straight back

When you say high flow cat, what do you mean? Like Random Technology cat or what? Bc the ebay "high flow cats" are just resonators, and thus sound like ass most of the time. lol
