Idle Problem

Post by erming »

Ok, I know there is idle question before this one but i have a different problem. The problem I have is on my 1990 cvic hatch with b16a1 swap. When the car is cold or first time I start it in the morning it will take it a few minutes to start running normal the rpms will go up and down between about 200-1300 rpms, but if i just give some gas or by the time i drive down the street its fine, this is not my problem though. My problem is the actual idle when I am at a dead stop, hot or cold the rpms will range from 1000-1500, it does not rev up and down between 1000 and 1500 it will be different just about every stop, it picks a diff place everytime and stays there till the next stop, sometimes it will be at 1100 sometimes 1200 sometime 1300 sometimes 1500 and so on. The car does have an aebs manifold and a 68mm tb, and to my understanding it is very hard to get a perfect idle with these aftermarket parts, which is fine with me I dont need perfect perfect but maybe 1000 or 1100 would be more practicle than 1500. By the way we did adjust the dist a lil but nothing. Any tips, tricks or suggestions would be appreciated

Few things. Make sure your coolant is full. Then, check the IACV on the back of the intake manifold. Inside it is a disc that will get loose, and also cause this.

i'm having idle issues to, so i feel ya.

i'd say pull the iacv and clean it, also check your fitv, the plastic screw/spring deal inside tends to back out over time and needs to be screwed back in. there are a ton of write ups on this, just google clean iacv or honda fitv and you'll find a ton. also check for vacuum leaks. i had a similair problem with my accord after i did the timing belt. come to find out, one of my vacuum lines came off at some point and was the issue. my integra had a funky idle and the iacv/fitv tricks fixed it. i'd start with check for vacuum leaks, then the fitv and iacv. from there if you're still having problems, maybe cleaning the throttle body and bleeding the coolant. you may want to make sure your throttle cable is adjusted properly as well. hope this helps.

I ask this because you have replaced the TB, have you checked the voltage on the TPS yet? Changing this may have affected your idle and WOT settings. Definitely your idle setting if you haven't done ANY adjustments. This is a very common problem with cars that have modified TB's and is sometimes overlooked.

You can find instructions for how to check it all over the internet. You just need to find your idle adjustment screw on the TB and be able to adjust the actual TPS clockwise or counterclockwise.
