If your car is not one of those years, I vote for wheel/tire combo.
You shouldve known ahead of time this post would have nothing to do with the car mentioned..

Yes, you're right, the article mentions 2002 and up. It SHOULD have nothing to do with his teg.

But with my GPS, I clocked both my 95DB, and my 94 EG with stock tires at 80MPH, and they both read fast. So does my 99 OdyLX, but it's not mentioned in the article either, even though it has the same digital speedo as a 2002 model.

Think about it, the only Hondas still under warranty **in 2007** were 2002 and up. When Honda finally admitted this finding in 2007. it resulted in a class action for warranty claims People were p!ssed they were being gypped out of warranty miles and resale miles.

Heck Honda even *extended* the already Extended warranty on the troublesome V6 Ody/TL V6 trannys from 100k to 109k when this finding was released. Do you think there was a magic model from ALL 01s to ALL 02s that resulted in this admission of speedo error?

I'm not objecting to your comment, but I think the article is relevant. I'm an Engineer who's owned different 12 Hondas and Acuras, and all have read 3-6% fast, with stock wheel/tire combos.

I don't think ALL Honda speedos magically changed between 01 and 02 for them to admit this error, but that's what Honda was trying to say, by ruling out any earlier models.

P.s., the original post didn't say what % of error he's seeing. If it's greater than 5%, it's not factory error.

Try borrowing someone's Garmin, Magellan, or TomTom GPS unit, and track your speed on an open stretch of highway. The GPS gives a pretty accurate speed, as long as you're maintaining it constant (no acceleration/deceleration).

Other ways to find out: Have a cop friend with a radar gun (most accurate method)?

Or (last choice) you could drive side-by-side with a friend on a cell phone on a four-lane road tell you what his reads. I don't recommend this one though, because his factory speedo could have up to 4% error too.

Info about Honda's class action settlement to buyers/leasors from '02 to '07 due to overclocked speedos can be found here...

http://hondaodometerclassaction.com/

Looks like the deadline for receiving claims for out-of-warranty repairs was last June, but they DID automatically extend all factory and HondaCare warranties by 5% of mileage amt. Looks like no action is needed by current owners:

Your 3yr/36k Honda warranty is now 3yr/37.8k
50k acura factory warranty is now 52.5k.
100k HondaCare is now 105k.

I also found the 99-01 V6 tranny warranty was 1st extended from 3yrs/36k to 84mo/100k after the recall and TSB, then to 93mos/109k as a result of a Different class action (not the odometer one):

So I was wrong about that one. :confused1:

well all gsr's 94+ gsr's came with 15" wheels, not 14", if i remember correctly OEM tire size is 195/55-15. everything else (besides the R) came with a 14" 195/60-14

Specification _ Sidewall _ Radius _ Diameter _ Circumference
195/55-15 _ 4.2" _ 11.7" _ 23.4" _ 73.7"
195/60-14 _ 4.6" _ 11.6" _ 23.2" _ 72.9"

Like stated XXX amount of times, its your tire/wheel size.
