Crank pulley ?

so should I go around re-torquing EVERY single bolt on my car just to make sure it doesnt fall apart? No that's just dumb and silly. Parts get old they break it happens. its a $20 fix I'm not worried about it. I made this thread to see how common it was and Mike said it's very common apparently.

Also when you do maintain your vehicle it breaks...that's just how it goes lol

moving parts need service. ALL OF THEM! like i stated, if youwould have had your timing belt done, you would not have this issue, you probably wouldnt have a gnarly oil leak either

i could be wrong, but i think that harmonics have a lot to do with it. sure there are folks that dont do the required maintenance and theyre bolts dont fall out. good for them, they lucked out. to sompare the other bolts in your car to ones that are directly related to the "drivetrain" more specifically the engine, is rediculous. honda requires things be done a t a certain point in time for a reason(not necessarily saying that the bolt will fall out if you dont) so that the car stays in tip top shape.

You get way worked up over the internet my gosh calm down, step back, and take a deep breath it's all going to be ok. my timing belt doesnt need replaced obviously I KNOW YOU WORK FOR HONDA AND THEY RECOMMEND IT but it has lasted this long so MAYBE just MAYBE I will replace it who knows. I figure it's my car my money so why not :)

Wow, so I stand corrected. Apparently its more common than I realized. Makes me wanna go check my crank pulley bolt.

if a bolt backs out then you loctite it, no if ands or buts, i loctite every bolt that i remove working on the car, just so i don't have to deal with the hassle of checking it all the time to see if it backed out or having to deal with it backing out and something breaking.

bildo the crank pulley didn't break because of an old timing belt. it could have been torqued down too tightly or not enough to cause some vibration to fuck up the harmonics like dale said and break it. but most likely cause the bolt backed out and it was loose

i realize that the timing belt did not cause this, but in a sense, if her timing belt would have been replaced 65k miles ago, then the pulley would have been re-torqued. the pulley has to be removed to change the timing belt, not sure if some people understand that.

now this is a serious question....wouldn't it have just rattled itself off eventually anyways, even if the t-belt was replaced, since the pulley is dry rotted and doesn't have anything to take in the vibrations?
