Swapping on a head with new head gasket, wiring, ECU, timing it correctly and then hope you don't get a CEL is the logical thing to do.
ive done two or three of them and had no cells afterwards
is it worth it performance wise? i personally do not think so. i would rather spend the money on doing a turbo setup or doing some suspension work.
is it worth it for the experience? sure. nothing like taking the top half of the engine apart and swapping something that isnt there stock to gain experience and a little performance.

I believe you Rick, but I also know that you deal with more OBD0 and OBD1 cars too...

thats nice. what does me working on more obd0 and obd1 cars has anything to do with anything in this thread?
when i stated that i have done two or three of them, i was stating that i have doen two or three of them on 96-00 civics. i find i irrevelant if i were to say how many i have done on obd0 and obd1 cars.
i know getting a cel is possible and i also know that if done properly, it will not throw a cel. above stolle has said how to do it to not throw a cel.
theres always different ways of doing things the way to get it done and the way to do it right. it just matters how bad you want it. if you want to mess with an obd2 car and want it to pass emissions then you better do it right or you could just plug in your stock ecu and put your stock injectors back in before you go get emissions :dunno:
I can't even tell how long N2hifi and I worked on Kelly's car to try and get the CEL to go away, but at the same time, ADRENALINE did the swap and the wiring...
And as mentioned above as well... it doesn't seem to be much of a problem for the '96 civic since they never came with a FTP sensor. But this is all little information that I have picked up while reading the rare bits of info on line.

Eventually the head will be redone and properly. I'm crossing my fingers that it won't throw a code, but it won't matter soon anyhow for emissions for me.
Finds it funny you (all) check my profile multiple times a day. Get a life.

You'll probably still set off a code for the IACV. P2E looks for a 3-Wire while the manual P2P looks for a 2-Wire.

So what are you doing to make these cars without the FTP sensor not have a CEL? Swapping fuel tanks or adding the FTP sensor, EVAP bypass valve, EVAP canister and all the wiring? Or are you just doing this on cars that have an FTP sensor already? And did the cars actually pass emissions after the swap?

not all cars have the ftp to throw the codes, so not all cars will throw them like you assume that all the ones i worked on had them.

yup, forgot about that, my mistake...

i would assume, after you added all that was needed for the ftp sensor to function properly it would pass emissions.
