Block rebuild
I plan on rebuilding my block next summer but want to start collecting the parts now so right now I'm just looking for some advise on what to buy.

All the gaskets, OEM bearings and thrust washers, new oil pump, new rear main seal, new rings (or pistons/rings), ARP rod bolts if you plan on spinning it hard (or aftermarket rods), assembly lube, torque wrench, either plastigauge or some nice measuring tools to check clearances, ring compressor. That will get the short block done. However, you don't know what bearings you need until you get the block/crank back from the machine shop.

Yes, but intentionally. I'm guessing whoever builds an engine on here will just get standard rings and not file fit. Standard rings seem to already have the gaps on the big end of specs. Now, if it's power added, that may be a different story. Ring end gap is another clearance that needs to be checked along with bearing, crank thrust, oil pump, ptw, etc. If you are unsure what all needs to be measured when assembling an engine, you need to do a TON of reading or you need to have someone qualified do the assembly for you.

well that depends on what pistons are being used and what rings they come with or what youll be using so yea. oem honda pistons/rings dont need filing, all others do from my experience.

Thought we were talking about a block rebuild? You also should decide what your plans for the motor are.Mr.integra;207973 wrote:Well I'm in college for mechanics right now so I know how to do the rebuild I even know how to precision cut the valves and valve seats so I'm not realy asking how to do it just for advise on what parts to get.

Well so far I'm thinking forged pistons and maybe crank, stage 2 cams, and new rods. I'd like to do a little bit of head work . I'd like to get it to ware I can do turbo later if I want.

Wouldnt be very hard, there are lots of companies that make rods/pistons out there. Wouldnt waste your time with buying another crank, Honda makes the best ones.Mr.integra;207982 wrote:Well so far I'm thinking forged pistons and maybe crank, stage 2 cams, and new rods. Yah that's what I've been told so I'll probably won't change the crank.
