car sputtering at higher rpm

Post by Davey13 »

last night on my way home i got on 79 and got on it, i hit 4k and the engine started to sputter like it was struggling along, the cel came on, shifted into fourth and it drove fine the rest of the way home. it ran abnormally well all day before that, and it runs great as long as i don't run it hard.

we just replaced the battery and alternator on Monday and then it started with this. I was told when we bought the car it needed a new fuel pump, could the problem be the motor not getting enough fuel at higher rpm? or maybe an injector problem?

any ideas? i'm not really much of a mechanic so any suggestions would be appreciated a lot

what was the cel code? check your plugs, wires, fuel filter, and if they told you it needs a new fuel pump replace it.

i'm not sure how to check it with out the scanner, i know there's a way on dodge's i guess there's a way on hondas too?

the light doesn't stay on either, it goes away when the car is shut off then restarted and then some times it wont come up at all, or until it's been running a bit, would that matter at all in trying to pull it?

and yeah it's on the to do list, was just curious of rather or not i should be looking elsewhere for the problem. most people was saying the pump was fine because it ran fine once it got started and insisted it was the alternator or battery which both went out on us earlier this week so it got put off.
