quick question, B18a1 vale adjustment

just need clarification
in all the info i have found it seems like you adjust the intake and exhaust at the same time... is this correct..?

if it is, how does it make sense when it's two different stroke's; ie, intake stroke-exhaust stroke..?

last time i adjusted valves was back in 94 and that was on my 73' Monty Carlo...
