D16Z6 in the car.
Seems like it wants to start, but the timing is off. I was given a block with a belt Tensioner that was smaller, and kept letting the timing belt slip off. I took the Tensioner off my D15B7 which is bigger and put it on. Belt jumps off even with me tightening the pulley to the max. I put the belt on correctly, (oil, tensioner, water pump then cam, yet still cannot get the timing to remain the same.
Any advice or hints???

is the belt actually jumping teeth? Put a little whiteout across the belt and cam gear, then turn the engine by hand and see if they will line up again.

The belt is jumping teeth. I know it is off because the UP on the cam is about at 11 oclock, and the Crank Pulley Lines are no where to be found in that area.
Also what is an easy way to turn the cam, besides using a 12mm and turning it with the ratchet?

New belt right out the package. Check the number on the part and it matches the old belt I had. I hate timing so much, because thats the only thing preventing my car from actually going after I rebuilt the engine. Would it make a difference what tension pully I used? The one of the Z6 block I believe came from a Z1 and is considerably smaller.

As long as the belt is tight enough when you start, it should not make a difference. Is there any slack on the side opposite the tensioner when you start?06sik20z3;190237 wrote:fuck yeah its going to make a diference if its smaller :throw rock:

THe pulley I am using is the D15B7 stock, which is bigger than the one that came with the block. The one that the came with the block, the belt jumped teeth and off when I was hand cranking it while putting the block together. That is why I switched and used my D15 tension pulley.
No slack whats so ever. even when I loosen the pulley to get the belt on the cam, its hard as hell to do which when I have done it on other blocks, its not that hard to slip it on, tighten the pulley and go about ya business.btlfed7;190240 wrote:As long as the belt is tight enough when you start, it should not make a difference. I think I have the wrong tension pulley. Both seem to be off, the one that came with the block will not remain pulled back to keep the belt tight, and the one off the D15B7 will not stay parallel with the water pump so it is shooting the belt off the water pump and cam....
Now I think the Main Relay is dead because the fuel pump will not prime today.
