Boosted ZC Opinions Wanted

Post by K'netic »

I'm weighing my options for motor swaps in my 90 4wd wagon and I need some input.

I was looking at a zc swap and I was wondering if anyone has seen boosted zc's running reliably.

I think the wagon is going to become my DD here soon because my dad wants to buy my 96 CD6 after I get the H22 in it and get it painted.

Sooooooooo

Discuss please...

Budget_crx on here has a boosted DOHC ZC, its not running right now due to him getting a couple other cars and letting it sit(also a half finished upgrade). It ran great using a small turbo and a HF mani.

He never gets on here anymore, and he refuses to get a cell phone. I talk to him quite a bit(via his GF's cell phone). Shoot me any questions you have and I can ask him for you. If you want I am sure he would not mind you coming out and looking at his CRX.

I'm a very inquisitive person so it'd probably be easier for both of us if I could just meet up with him.

Where does he live?

I'll be home from tonight (late) til early monday. See if he has some free time in between then.

He lives in NOCO, I will text his GF to get his schedule. :)

Personally, I've yet to be impressed by a ZC...mostly because every one I've ever seen has the same story as this one...not running right. Back in the day, I had a buddy that had a CRX HF with ZC swap, he had every mod I did and I had a body kitted SI. And seriously, we had the same mod list. I mopped his ass EVERY TIME WE RACED! Plus, he was always having issues with ignition, or trying to find out what car a certain part had to come from for replacement or some shit.

If you are looking for d power, just swap in a VTEC D or boost it. It's a ton easier and (IMO) no one would be impressed with a zc swap in the car anyway.

One of the most 'fun' D series I've ever built was a A6/y8 mini me with SRP pistons and Eagle rods. Sold/built it for the same buddy above but for a 93 DX hatch. Had a (OLD) Skunk2 chipped p28, and STOCK everything else and ran 9.9 (1/8)...shitty tires, drinking straw exhaust, stock intake, DX trans, stock clutch, etc. The pistons were for a6 at 9:1 but the y8 head had been milled WAY past what was recommended. It's been a long time ago but as I remember it worked out to nearly 11:1 comp. The old skunk2 program didn't have a rev limiter either, so we're really not sure how high it went since he didn't have a tach.

funny thing about that as it was put together so 'loose' that when the motor was first started up it clattered so bad that you'd swear it was a diesel!
