Car overheating

Post by da9teg »

Ok, so the past couple of days my car has been running sluggish, and i can tell something's wrong. Today I was sitting at the stoplight and the temp gage was slowly going up, but goes down after I start moving(with heater on). This has happened before, the car runs funny and the temp. goes up. Can anyone help me with this problem. The radiatior, radiator cap, and thermostat are all fairly new. Suggesgtions?

waterpump?
my gunmetal b16 hatch used to do that... topped off the coolant (noticed it was low) and that fixed it for a little bit, but coolant went low again and it would start happening again. ended up that the waterpump shit itself.

Belive me the fan works there could be a short or something, but it definatley comes on when the car is off and drains my battery(although hasnt happend in a couple of months). I hope its not the water pump because i cant afford to get it fixed now. Is there a way to test poor circulation?

not really that I know of... have you noticed your coolant was low recently? any dripping from the timing belt side of the motor?

i've had a problem like this twice, one time it was because my fan was unplugged, other time it was a bad thermostat.

i do have to add coolant to the overflow maybe every month and a half, but not much. like a 1/8 cup amount. so bad head gaskets can cause overheating.?

To check and see if your fan is working let the car sit running and get it up to operating temp and see if the fan kicks on at all. if it doesn't try and power up the fan manually. if it kicks on the fan is good. After that I would check to see if your coolant temp sensor is working correctly(without that the fan wont know when to kick on).
