What engine for best gas mileage?

So im considering putting a honda together for a dd. I'd like to get the best gas mileage I can. So my question is.....what engine is best for gas mileage? Im assuming the engine from the Crx HF's, but thats a guess. Also, what cars is the engine a direct bolt up to?

What kind of honda are you putting a motor in? Just get a little single cam d16.

I dont have one yet. Im just doing some research. I need a DD cause im getting 20mpg right now, which is no bueno. So im trying to find what engine gets the best mileage, and then what cars that certain engine is a direct swap into. After I know this, and locate a swap and rolling chassis, I'll get to work.

d15z1 vtec-e VX engine is what you want. 55mpg from the factory on 92-95 civic vx's... i even have one for sale.

its what i have in my crx. was not easy getting it all to function properly.

Thats what I was thinking I would be told. So basically I could just look for a VX? Or would any eg/ej work?
