I need some good d series help

Post by 1389evo »

I have a 92 civic cx. I bought it for $500 running. It has had a new original motor put in it which is the d15b8. Now Idk how many miles is on it now. But i have put all new belts, seals, water pump, cleaned the injectors, new plugs, wires, distributor, short ram, header, cat back, and new battery, Thats it. Now i know the motor isn't powerful to begin with. But its very very slow, and im only gettin 25mpg according to my addition with it having a 8gallon tank. When the car has been sitting for awhile it has a sketchy idle after starting and most of the time idle's very lo so it shakes a little bit. Does anyone on here know why im only getting 25mpg.. And no cel is on

Maybe try using some Seafoam. What kind of gas and oil do you use? Have you tried cleaning the IACV and FITV, then adjusting the idle to OE spec? Do you have a two post driver's side motor mount (I know, weird question but there is a reason behind it)?

I use valvoline 5w30 from the bulk at work, wit honda filter. And only shell gas. And as far as cleaning the iavc and fitv no.. But those are good suggestions. I wil also try that and i have had the idle adjusted. And also im not sure if i have a 2 post driver side mount i would have to look. But thank you for those options i will look into them. I mean my car only takes 8 gallons when i fill it up after the gauge says its on the E. But i just read online that they have 10 gal. Tanks? Yes it does have the stock cx trans.. Which is horrible and also have changed the fluid when i got it which was like 8k miles ago

I'd recommend using different fuel. I noticed I would get better mileage when I used BP over Shell back when I had to use 93. I'd suggest using QT 87 instead. Try cleaning those out to see if that helps with your idle issue. Here are a couple DIY's.

I believe the fuel gauges on 5th gens are a little off. I've always found that I had about 1.5 gallons left after a fill up from E based on my tank capacity. The reason I asked about the mount is because there was a TSB on two post motor mounts for 5th gens made from 92-93.5. Those mounts made vibrations from the engine harsh and noticable to the driver.
