Ok got a few questions. Im tired of my car just sitting around with no engine in it so i mangaged to swing enough to get a b16 shortblock. I have a gsr head sitting at my shop which i will be putting on the b16 for now. I bought the head planning to build a ls/vtec with it. But im now thinking of getting rid of all the ls stuff and eventually doing a build with the b16 and gsr head. Either build will be for nitrous. A 125 shot direct wet kit. I will be running this with a type-r trans. The car is a 98 cx hatch.
Questions are:
What are the major pros and cons to both these setups?
Which engine setup will hold nitrous better?
Would the b16 run better with a b16 head?

Pros:
They'll run pretty good until they blow up.
Cons:
They'll blow up.
Which engine setup will hold nitrous better?
Neither.
Would the b16 run better with a b16 head?
No.

This man speaks the truth. When you build a motor like that, theyre not going to last forever, but thats half the fun of building it in the first place. Fuck nitrous anyway.RyanA;171854 wrote:What are the major pros and cons to both these setups?

Then you already know what you need to. I know it may sound pretty Mr Obvious to some but maybe not to you. More dispacement equals more power every time. So that means a 1.8 will make more power than a 1.6. More compression makes more power so a GSR head, stock to stock, will make more power. Especially if you are talking about a GSR head with GSR cams VS B16 head with B16 cams. GSR cams flow more.... A 125 shot is pretty stupid if you want a car that you even attempt to call reliable. Nitrous is a very hard hit and pretty hard on these blocks/pistons. If you don't have it perfect (too lean or too rich will hurt things; too rich will lift your ring lands) don't count on it living. If you really want to try to make it work, put a fuel cell up front with race gas in it with a fuel pump to make a stand alone nitrous fuel system. You can run pump crap when driving normal then have good gas when spraying.
Unfortunately, any way you slice it, you will have an engine that WILL break way sooner than you want. Small hit may not be so bad; 125 is not going to be pretty.
So, if you already knew the above, why did you even ask? How about some questions you DON'T know the answers to? :kermit:

I 100% agree with RyanA. Of course LS/VTEC is going to be better. I'd recommend running at the most a 75 shot. 125 is going to be way to much for a stock motor. And I'm sure you'll get plenty of power with a 75 shot as well. I'd also suggest doing a direct port setup instead.

i am doing a direct wet port. Sorry i did leave a few details out or maybe i did not clarify enough. Before i run the 125 shot i will have a rods and pistons in either engine. Yes while i am running a stock block im thinking of a 75 maybe cause that is a little iffy.
Thank ryanA i was trying to find out what kind of compression i was going to be dealing with with the b16/gsr head. I know its going to break i plan on that but thats the fun in it.
I know that the ls/vtec is going to make more power but wont hold the rpms that a b16 will.
So i guess another one of my questions is do you think the extra rpms will make up for the .2 liters lost?

If your going to build the motor, why worry about the B16 revving higher? Just build it to rev to 8500.

Yep, I agree. The issue with the LS is the spindly rods. Get some decent rods and pistons and you'll be fine for higher RPM's. If your tune is spot on and there is no detonation, you will live for a while on a 125 shot. IF you experience any detonation, the stock sleeves won't be long to this world. Nitrous is VERY hard on parts so you really need to overbuild; even then, there is no guarantee if it will really last.

needs a progressive controller for the Nitrous. 'soften' the hit and ramp up to the 125 shot.
