Header Questions

Post by gotrice »

I'm looking for a header for my H22. I figured why spend around $175 for a Megan header when I will see almost no performance gains, and I could buy a more expensive one and get my moneys worth. I have been looking on ebay and have found a few that seem to be what I'm looking for and have a couple of questions for you guys...1) Are these legit?, I know theres a bunch of knock off crap on ebay, and I dont want to be scammed. 2) Which style is better? 3) Are these good prices, or if not is there another site where I can find good a god header for a good price?

The biggest problem with ebay headers is that they tend to crack at the welds. Usually only a problem in turbo applications though. As far as performance gains, not sure in a naturally aspirated application. Good luck! :)

Nearly everyone I know with an eBay header has had them crack. I think you can reweld them though. I have no idea about performance gains.

Both of those look like classic ebay crap.
Sometimes they dont fit right, sometimes the seals/welds aren't that great like fobangn said.
Don't always trust those pictures on ebay no name brand parts. The part that you get, may look nothing like that both appearance wise and quality wise.
Personally, when it comes to parts, I spend that extra amount of money, then never have to worry about anything. Some people get lucky with that ebay stuff though.
As for performance gains, don't expect to 'feel' anything.
As you add more and more 'upgrades' then your small HP here and there will obviously add up.

honestly avoid ebay, just do some research on honda-tech, there is no reason you cant get a quality header that will make good gains for $500 or less brand new'

sure buying an SMSP for $1200 would be great, but theres no reason you cant get a good solid performing header for half that

Get an account on Preludeonline.com. Since you have a h22 motor, I assume it is some sort of Prelude. There are a lot of JDM style parts on there all the time. There are several Mugens floating around on there for around $600-800 I believe. We just picked up the ol lady a DC sports header for her h22a1. It isn't the best out there, but that's what she wanted.

If you want to go with something better than Megan or DC but not pay top dollar for Mugen, I have a Greddy 1 piece on my b18c1 and it pulled alot harder through the rpm band than my previous DC Sports(pulled harder for a header change, keep that in mind). A Greddy you can pick up off of ebay for around $440 or so.

Here is one on ebay motors:

I would suggest looking around and get an account on Preludeonline.com--if you plan on seeking more parts and info for at least your h22. Also, don't rely on ebay motors for your parts selections...
