what size is your charge piping? how much power and boost on what turbo are you making?twkdcd595;143601 wrote:I am not as lucky as other applications to have my oem stuff be more useful at the point I am now... I wish I was mike.
Oem stuff is not cutting it, the intake manifold design is horribly small and less than ideal for my application with long runners and virtually no plenum space (which is being addressed as well with a different one). The tb is undersized for my larger displacement, larger turbo, higher boost application and is beginning to hurt my efficiency. I am pushing enough boost or rather more accurately enough cfm to make the stock tb and intake manifold sizes a restriction. I say that because the air velocity through the oem tb and entrance to the intake manifolds undersized plenum is well over the point at which turbulence and efficiency loss become an issue (.4 mach, the number I have always heard over the last few years). Matching it to my charge piping size will correct that and just bearly get me below that velocity.
I have also discussed this with a few people I deal with for tuning or whatnot and they tell me it will definately be helpful in my goals of reaching the maximum efficiency of my setup.
I am not looking to put a 90mm tb on the setup or anything rediculous but while doing the intake manifold I might as well match the throttle body now as well and address both at 1 time sooner rather than later.
I appreciate all the responces so far, thanks to all!!! Anyone with ANY thoughts please post, this is a good discussion so far.

what kind of gains does a car get from boring out the throttle body or is it just for show?

Basically.
Gains would be minimal on any n/a applications... on boosted applications you will seen more benefits (ie. power) from larger throttle body, within reason.
In either case, at some point too big will end up have little gains and you will just sacrifice throttle responce and a little low end power.
For me I am looking at just larger than my 2.5" charge piping size, so that there is no longer a bottleneck as the air hits that TB and intake manifold. I am boosted though and being an f series am making more than enough torque (in fact maybe too much if thats possible). So what little low end power (if any) I shift to the higher rpms will be helpful, as will be the additional peak power gains from eliminating the restriction in the intake tract.

i dont know what power level you are at but i doubt you see any hp/tq gains, unless your current tb is really damn small. like VX small LOL. remember its forced induction.
id love to see your before and after dyno graphs.

heres his current old/new setup dyno. he told me not to let anyone see it but i dont care what he told me. enjoy...mike93hatch;144101 wrote:i dont know what power level you are at but i doubt you see any hp/tq gains, unless your current tb is really damn small. like VX small LOL. remember its forced induction.

you can really notice the vtec crossover in his after pull.

yea i think its screwed up because his power drops quite a bit and then goes back up.

I have a Power throttle body. It looks pretty much like the factory, but is 65mm. It was around $150....I think they make a 68 and 70 as well, but I don't if they make one for accord/prelude.
I would like to see a couple dyno charts with just the tb changed on a healthy setup. A bigger tb not helping seems to be all bandwagon myth on honda-tech.
