car died today sitting on hill

my car was running fine all day then got stuck in traffic going uphill. my car all of a sudden dies and wouldnt start again. i thought i have been having trouble with my starter sometimes ihave to bump the key alot to get it to turn over, but now im thinking maybe something else could be wrong any ideas why my car would just die like that? o also it started when i pulled out my #1 spark plug wire my buddy said as soon as i pulled it out it fired up, which doesnt make since any help would be great im have no clue as to what is going on wit it

damn i forgot i made this post, it had over half a tank and no it finally started like nothing was wrong. hasnt happened since either what could be the problem?
