Leaking oil from head gasket
Before you flame me on this I had just recently changed my headgasket and i used arp headstuds. I have heard that you are suposed to exceed the 22 foot pounds with the instal of these. I only torked to the honda requirements "22lb". Could this have caused my oil trickle problem. I am leaking oil right below the tensionall timing tensioner. I also used gasket sealer in the designated place around the timing chain im just lost. Im tempted to remove the v cover and cams and rockers and just retork.. Help!!!!

I am curious, did you torque them to spec in a certain order (usually your manual will tell you which order) or did you just torque them as you felt to torque them but to torqued spec?

50-80 sounds more like the range it should be at.
edit:
It looks like 22 ft. pounds is the first step. The manual says you then tighten all the bolts 90 degrees for a "second step". And another 90 degrees for a "third step". I don't know what that equals with arp studs though.

when using arp headstuds or anyother arp product, u use the spec that arp tells u. and rick is correct, most of the honda headstuds i have used have said 70-80 ft/lbs. where are the instruction that came with ur headstuds???????????? this really aggrevates me

Wow, I have never heard of any head stud(or bolt) requiring 20 ft/lbs
Honestly if you didnt catch that, maybe its time to have someone experanced work on your motor. I know both Dale(GUNMETAL SI) and Rick(Rickles8099) have alot of experance with honda engines. You might want to PM one of them for help.

Just an FYI ARP head studs should be torqued to 80ft/lb with ARP moly lube and 120ft/lb if using motor oil and in the correct pattern

lol listen to 5th gen, 20ft lbs is the 1st sequence, then you go to about 70-80ft lbs.

actually theres a second step in there before the 70-80lbs. i know on sohc engines most of the torque specs are 1st step ~29ft/lbs, 2nd step ~48ft/lbs, 3rd step ~48ft/lbs, and then fourth step of ~48ft/lbs again.m6speed;130107 wrote:lol listen to 5th gen, 20ft lbs is the 1st sequence, then you go to about 70-80ft lbs.
when putting on head studs i do steps 1-3 and then my add my own step of the 70ft/lbs and add a 5th step of 70ft/lbs again.
oh and the most important things of all..... clean the gasket surfaces so that you can eat off of them AND follow the torque spec sequence found in any haynes, chiltons, alldata manuals.
