car ran then died and wont start

so my buddy just swapped a bp(1.8 from a ford escort GT) into his 1994 mx3. car ran and he drove it from kansas to arkansas. car died and wouldnt start back down in arkansas. he checked the fuel and its getting fuel but its not getting spark. he just wants to get it running so i told him id post it up here and see if any of you can give him some ideas to see if he can fix it,

i would check grounds. fuses. and everything electrical he touched when swapping it.

start from the spark plugs and work your way back. check everything involved in the ignition system and you will find your problem.
