car wont start

Post by Tyler »

so last night during the rain i was riding with a friend in his civic back to his house. the road there was partially flooded, but it didnt seem too deep for the car. turns out in one part of the road the water was up to right underneath the headlights. we know we sucked some water into the intake. his car started to run really rough and had almost no power at all. floored in neutral it took about 3-4 seconds to reach 5k. we let the car idle for a little bit, and then went to pull the car into the garage. when he tried to put it into gear, it died, and wont start since then. we tried letting it dry out to see if it would start then, but still wont. any ideas on what exactly happed or what we can do?

There is alot that could have gone wrong with water that high. You could have killed something electric, or fucked the internals. Since it cranks I would start with a simple compression test.
