i really want to supercharge my d16z6, but dont want to start anything without some knowledge. so this thread isnt saying im doing it or anything, just asking some questions i want to know first off. the engine has 172xxx and is bone stock. could anyone list everything i would need to get between 225-250whp? thats what i want, but dont exactly need it that high. like i said, just for informational purposes. also, does anyone that has done this or something like it know of an approximate price i'd be looking at? any other info on it would be great.
also, what kind of gas mileage loss would i be looking at if i were to do this?
thanks

dont know much about superchargers except that i hate them but i do know your mpg will pretty much stay the same IF you drive it normal. i can still get 30mpg out of my hatch unless i start driving it hard then it starts chuggin the shit

Well with a supercharger you woun't get above 180 or so unless you add some nitros to it as well. Or if you rebuild your motor with 10.5 :1 compression you might be able to reach 200. But you will need a complete supercharger kit, 450cc injectors, and a chipped ecu. Theres not to much that you need for a supercharger is basicy a bolt on power adder and sounds cool! You can pic up a supercharger kit for 700 or so, 80 or so for the injectors, and 100 or so for the ecu, and there will be about $50 in misc stuff like belts and gaskets for the kit. Like turbofreak said I get 30+ mpg when driving around normaly but if I keep my foot in it I get about 24 mpg. Its all about watching the boost gauge and keeping it on the vac side of the gauge to save gas. Its fun having a supercharger but if you looking at getting 200+ hp I would go with a turbo you can get to your goal alor easyer. But if you want a great DD and 180 or so hp is good for you a supercharger is great.Tyler;126386 wrote:i really want to supercharge my d16z6, but dont want to start anything without some knowledge. so this thread isnt saying im doing it or anything, just asking some questions i want to know first off. the engine has 172xxx and is bone stock. could anyone list everything i would need to get between 225-250whp? thats what i want, but dont exactly need it that high. like i said, just for informational purposes. also, does anyone that has done this or something like it know of an approximate price i'd be looking at? any other info on it would be great.

well i wasnt sure how much power i could get out of it, 200-250 would be my prime hp. i really want to hold my own in a honda with my friends who drive dsms. i just want a quick little dd that gets good gas mileage can whistle at people, lol. i was actually inspired by your vid. so you are saying about $1000 to be running right and driveable every day? is that including boost gauge, and all that stuff? now that i know its not too far out of my range im really considering it. i dont want to turbo because i just want a little dd and im addicted to the SC sound right now. plus turbo would cost me moreKsprelude01;126393 wrote:Well with a supercharger you woun't get above 180 or so unless you add some nitros to it as well. You will beable to beat stock SI's with ease. The amount of tourqe the SC adds is what you feel mostly. Since no matter what rpm you are at, you push the petal down and you have boost. Before the SC you would have to downshift to pass people on the highway but with the SC you can just push the petal down in 5th and pass anyone with ease.
OK so heres the price break down.
500-800 for the SC
80-120 for injectors
100-120 for ecu
150-250 for a wideband O2 sensor
20-30 for a boost gauge
40-80 for hondata intake manafold gasket (this isn't totaly nessasary but it helps with heat)
20-30 for misc hoses and belts
So in the end you can end up paying $800 - $1500 total for the kit just depends on how good of deals you can find.
And the best part is if you get tiered of the SC and want more power and switch to a turbo you already have the fuel and fuel managment setup ready to go.
If you decide to do it and need help installing it just let me know.

im almost positive im going to do it. its just a matter of when i can get the money and when i can get the parts. but i will let you know when it does happen. i was already planning on it since you have done it before. will i need a tune after the set up? or will i be fine without it?Ksprelude01;126537 wrote:You will beable to beat stock SI's with ease. Well if you get a wide band O2 and if you use dsm 450 you can use the tune that I have to get you started and work from there. With the wideband you can tune it yourself.Tyler;126564 wrote:im almost positive im going to do it. its just a matter of when i can get the money and when i can get the parts. but i will let you know when it does happen. i was already planning on it since you have done it before. will i need a tune after the set up? or will i be fine without it?

What about a 5th gen Prelude the engine runs strong but it has 130xxx. I would like to supercharge it but, afraid of messing something up cause of the miles. Or will the engine still hold up. I think I saw you, your civic on manchester road today you picked upped really quick and sounded like you had a supercharger, made me want to get one.
Prelude, the other ultimate driving machine. :partydance:

Ya i was out and about on manchester yesterday. The reason why I wanted to SC my civic was 2-3 years ago there was a member on stl prelude club that had a SC on his 5th gen prelude and that thing sounded so good and hauled ass. And ever since than I have been wanting to supercharger something!
The engine will be fine if you tune it right and dont go over board with the boost. You should be able to fine a used kit for a pretty good price.
