I know... I guess I will be cool and mention a specific wheel size whenever I talk about a turbo just so no one thinks I am talking about a .90trim that is the size of a pea whistle.

Why do many of the people building motors opt for the 89mm crank?
you are agreeing with me right? I didn't say shorter, I said lower. I am plenty aware of the benefits of the 89mm stroke for building motors.

I wasn't operating under the assumption that a 15 year old kid was made of money. If he's got the scratch to spend on a good equal length manifold, then I would go for that. but if he is trying to do this and is worried about cost, I think a log will do him just fine.

so, if I am running 8psi through 1.5 inch charge piping and switch to 3inch piping, i shouldn't expect any change in spool time... that makes sense. I am saying that piping makes a difference when trying to get a given psi by a certain rpm.

then why does my buddies evo make 400 on 25 lbs on stock turbo and 595 on 25 lbs on a 35r?

You think I think its cool to list what trim is? You don't think for a second that if you were buying a turbo you'd want to know what you are buying other than 50, 57, 60 trim?
You talk about trim size like the more you go up with trim, the more power it will push. Read it like it wasn't straight from your understanding, and thats what you'll get from it.

By saying LOWER powerband you mean less torque? Or do you mean it can't spin as high?.....you never say.
LS motors will make more torque than a gsr / type r / b16 almost any day of the week. They just can't hold it to the upper rpm.....hence the word SHORTER. If people use the 89mm crank, do they have a lower powerband (read what you wrote, its what it implies)?

Maybe you weren't. But clear as day he has it listed on his "list of parts" at the top of the thread.

Never said that. I doubt you would really feel a difference with the ideal size for charge piping (2-3"). Probably less than 200 rpm.

Backpressure.

Some will be gained because the temp from the turbo won't be near as high either.

By lower I mean that the motor makes more power LOWER in the RPM range. I totally agree that the head chokes out the top end on these motors; once that is taken care of, the longer stroke is great for making power, and making that power before a b16/b18c crank would.

Shorter implies that two motors (lets say an LS and a GSR) will start their powerbands at the same place in the rpm range, but that the LS falls off sooner when the gsr keeps making power. If this were true, why build ls/vtec motors? why not just build GSRs since they will have LONGER powerbands? That isn't the case, the LS makes more power low in the rpm range than the gsr.

i have understood everything spork has said, and got what he meant by it too. spork was replying to Teg-Potential when he started listing things about the turbo setups. 5thgen, while you may be right, when explaining and teaching things to someone who knows nothing about turbos, etc. you dont need to be so exact and precice on everything. he most likely doesnt understand most of what you are explaining, and i wouldnt have either not too long ago.

back to topic kindof, if i were going to turbo a stock z6 with about 175k, about how much would that cost me? i dont need a list of things i would need and what not, just a rough estimate at the price i would be looking at to see if its worth thinking about it. thanks

I don't care about age.

As long as you (not you directly) can research things and can grasp what is going on you will be fine. Doesn't matter if you are 10, or 60 years old.
