Pain in the ass.

Post by mofkntep »

Just gonna go ahead and say it, I don't know jack shit about Hondas (yet) but my civic is giving a pretty good heap of trouble...

It cuts out. A LOT. I've changed the battery (because it was old as dirt) and checked the alternator (it's still reading current flow but it's getting replaced anyways as it's the factory one). The battery light does illuminate right before it dies... So that leaves me with three things - either my voltmeter is a piece of crap, my altenator is a liar or it's a fuel problem. My question is, what kind of fuel related issues are associated with Hondas?

Fuel relay, but usually that just doesn't let it start, I have never had one die b/c of it.

It dies consistently... The first night it started doing it, it was cutting out in 4th and 5th gear over 60mph ... then it was fine the rest of the half hour home ... then the next day it started cutting out in lower gears and now it just likes to die after I get it started. See why I'm so confused? haha

Beats me, the car practically never existed until I got it. I've just been replacing things as I find them to be crapping out.

And you said you tested current draw..did you test the voltage of the battery with the car running before it died? It should be slightly above 14V if your alternator is good.

haha, thanks.

and it hovers around 12V ... but since I can replace it for nothing, I might as well. I was just out messing with it and I got it to run for about two minutes before it died while giving it gas. LAME.

Well your charging system isn't working if you're getting battery voltage at idle.
