D.I.Y. oil filter relocation...

Post by 4Door »

the purpose is to:
1) put the filter in a better location...
2) add to the amount of oil the motor can hold, 6qt vs. 5qt...
3) it will also help slightly with oil cooling...
4) it will also make a turbo build a lil easier for the oil supply...
5) it will also give a great spot for your oil pressure sender unit...

parts list from Jegs:
(i know allot of people here prefer summit)
oil filter adapter
1) #0771116-spin on adapter 20x1.5mm.... $17.99
1) #07711791-single filter mount 3/4x16.... $22.99
-i used the push loc fittings and hose-
2) #0555102220-#8 push loc blue hose 5'.... $14.99 each
4) #0555100109-1/2 NPT to #8.................. $5.49 each
2) #0555110052-#8 straight fitting............. $5.99 each
2) #0555110072-#8 90degree fitting........... $14.99 each
(i opted for a Fram PH1 filter)

there really isnt a need to relocate the oil filter on a honda, unless maybe its on a s2000 thats getting a turbo. but D, B, H, etc.....no. but its a good way to waste time and money ill give you that!

Actually, the only reason I ever thought about relocating the oil filter was so that I didn't have to get under the car so much just to change the filter. As well as it's less messy.

Looks like a good job, but to actually have it serve a purpose I would split the line andrun an oil cooler in there.

Its was easy for me when the RX7 had its original rotary. The oil filter at the top, and alot of room to reach down. all I had to do was kick the oil pan under the car. As for a civic, I have no clue. :)

EDIT: Get any other filter, just not fram.

eh a filter is a filter, they all filter.

but i know what youre saying. i personaly use only purolator's

but try telling tony palo (tony1) that fram filters are bad. he has always ran nothing but fram filters and has never had a problem.

I used to run them to until I found out about the cardboard cartage. I have never had an issue when I did, but I like the piece of mind that its not going to fall apart.

I have a long enough reach to get to the drain plug without having to jack the car up. The only reason I have to jack it up is to be able to get under it and get the oil filter. Even then, once I take it off, oil drips everywhere on the engine.
