what would one recommend to use to help hold studs into the exhaust housing for the downpipe of a turbo? ive always had problems with bolts holding the exhaust on because they like to back out. im going to put some studs in there and see how it does, but would like to know if there is something that i can use to help hold them in.
ideas that ive had already are:
thread lock -- exhaust gets too hot
jb weld -- havent found any info on the temps it can withstand
devcon aluminum epoxy -- same as jb weld.
the problems with jb weld and devcon is that if i were to strip a stud or one were to break off, how will i get the rest of the stud out and how will i be able to clean the threads in the exhaust housing.
edit: forget jbweld, ive read that it can withstand up to 500 degree F

bolt + spot weld... when you need to take it off, breaking a spotweld isnt tough

I think you will run into an issue of the weld breaking on its own. You are welding 2 unlike metals. Steel to Cast Iron.Spork;97489 wrote:bolt + spot weld... when you need to take it off, breaking a spotweld isnt tough

I meant spotweld the bolt to the downpipe, just a little bead to keep the bolts in place

Thats what i was talking about too. Sure it would hold for a little bit, but that will crack like an SSAC manifold.Spork;97492 wrote:I meant spotweld the bolt to the downpipe, just a little bead to keep the bolts in place
