Need Some motor help?

Post by justme5424 »

Alright here's the deal. I have a 92 Prelude Si With the H23 DOHC in it, And I was considering swapping another H23 in... But now I'm at a stand still. I was wondering If the F22B DOHC is interchangeable with the H23? and if it is can I still use my H23 Trans and ECU? Reason why I'm asking is because I found that the F22B DOHC is about $200 cheaper than the H23, and if I can use that one with no modifications whatsoever, then I'll go with that one. I need help on this ASAP and If I can't figure it out I guess I'll just stick with the H23. Any help is greatly appreciated guys. Thanks

I wouldn't want to downgrade to an F22B but yes you could use your existing tranny but the ECU would be different. What is wrong with your current motor?

high miles and the motor is missing some pieces. I've put everything back into the motor, but the last thing I need to do is put a rocker arm on and set the valve lash...One problem...I don't know how and I can't find anyone to help me do it. lol The other thing is I want to boost the new motor, Cuz I think it would be better to run boost on a newer motor than an older one. the old one's got 194,XXX and the newer one will have about 35,XXX to 50,XXX. I really appreciate all the help you keep giving me cuz you are the only one posting replies to my threads. lol and i can't figure out why no one else will. lmao

the F22/23s have real liners instead of the RMF crap the H series use making them much stronger for boost. Also since the Fs run a smaller bore there is more material between the bores so you get a better seal on the HG. You cant also put forged pistons in the Fs unlike the Hs. From the goals you have stated I would recommend buying an F23 ($300-400) and put your H23 head on it after installing some new stem seals. It will bolt up to your tranny and your ecu should be fine for now.

the f22b dohc is the same engine as the h23, the only difference is 1 mm smaller bore, externally they are identical. like they said i would go with the F just for the future upgradability

considering everyones thoughts, it seems like the F series is gonna be a better bet for me. With that said and done, what ECU should I get and am I going to have to make any modifications to get the F series engine to work with my H series wiring harness and stock guage cluster? Please inform me of any complications I may come across doing this swap. Thanks again guys.
