im pretty sure changing the vtec wont be a noticable gain. you would need a to take it to a dyno to see any results with the amount of mods you have.

You won't notice the difference. And even if you set VTEC engagement 500 rpms lower, the fuel and ignition maps won't be properly set so you won't really see a difference until 500 rpms later, when VTEC is originally supposed to engage.jdmjerry07;84228 wrote:im interested in taking it off your hands if u think it would be worth doing i have header back exhaust, intake, and gsr throttle body as far as motor is concerned... i thought that setting vtec 500 rpms lower at 5 instead of 6 would help me out more and that making sure my air fuel mix is still good with the intake and bigger throttle body making these adjustments i would think to see a little increase right?
With these mods, a VTEC controller is not necessary.

If you are interested in picking one up, PM me about it. But like these guys said, setting vtec 500rpms lower isn't going to change anything for you... vtec is set at the point where the power curves for the low and high cam settings cross eachother so that it provides a smooth power curve, setting the engagement point lower will just mean that the car switches sooner and will actually lag for about 500rpms until it catches back up to where it was supposed to be. The redeeming feature of the VAFC 'hack' as it's called, is that on the VTEC engines (I will speak of b-series, since I am much more comfortable with those motors) the fuel maps for the high cam setting are set to run richer than necessary. the VAFC allows you to lean out the fuel after vtec so that the motor gets a better mix = more power. obviously, a controller will also benefit you down the road if you put in something like a mild cam and want to bump your fuel mix as opposed to paying for a full blown retune for just a small adjustment.
This post comes with a guarantee: I guarantee that I don't care what you think about it.

Examples of Piggyback Engine Management are Unichip, Xede, UTEC, and others.
It sounds like your wanting a V-AFC and a wideband O2 sensor. But I don't think you need any of this. Whats done to your car?
Edit: Already found a new one.

with your current modifications, it is not necessary something you need... but, they are nice to have. any gain you see from adjusting fuel would be minimal until you do some more to make fuel tuning necessary. Yes, the VAFC has a digital tachometer on it so you can see your RPMsjdmjerry07;84351 wrote:sweet that makes plenty of sense.... does this little gadget also show rpms and other things to right besides just adjust the fuel curve in vtec, and do u think this will benefit my car if i get it with the modifications i have, thanks for ur time and helping me figure this all out to man
and if I recall correctly, Rob (SilverStreak) has one on his car with basically a stock motor too.

yea sounds like what you are lookin for is a vafc and a wideband... but that is overkill for your setup...

You should maybe try to use the money toward chipping / burning chips for the ecu. You can learn a lot more from doing that....which will help if you do bigger things with the car down the road.

I use mine to take out some fuel and improve my gas mileage. For some reason, my car started dumping way to much fuel into the motor after the swap and I was getting 200 miles to the tank. Now I back to 350 per tank. Otherwise, its pointless. I've messed around with different VTEC engagement points and the car performs no differently. I'll be getting rid of mine once the Z6 gets tuned in the spring on a real EMS. I'm telling him from experience, that its a waste of time and money.Spork;84413 wrote:with your current modifications, it is not necessary something you need... but, they are nice to have. any gain you see from adjusting fuel would be minimal until you do some more to make fuel tuning necessary.
