Opinion on building my motor
As some of you know, I've been trying to get everything together to put my built block together. I'm down to just needing pistons and some machine work. What I'm wanting to know is if I need to get the motor balanced. Some say I should, others say I don't need to. What do you guys think? Here what the build consists of...

my opinion: "you don't need to" just means that you could get away without it... so why not just get it done as insurance?

The only reason why I'm not wanting to do it is because it will be the most expensive part of the entire build. More then any of the parts cost me. And if I take it to get it balanced, I'm just going to have the shop put everything together for me, taking the fun out of this entire project.Spork;74561 wrote:my opinion: "you don't need to" just means that you could get away without it... so why not just get it done as insurance?

Most Hondas are an internally balanced engine. Ditch the crank and get it balanced.SilverStreak;74562 wrote:The only reason why I'm not wanting to do it is because it will be the most expensive part of the entire build. More then any of the parts cost me.

Well I would just to have it done and be safe and not sorry you know. But I am sure if you dont it wont matter but I dont know much about rebuilding motors but I am learning. This is something I would do research on and talk to Chris,Dale,Andy and whoever else we know who has built a motor before about.

all which is a waste on a low rpm boosted motor with stock valve train.06sik20z3;74560 wrote:balance and blue printed, port and polished, flow benched, decked and honed, is all work i would recomend.

oh, and you dont need a bunch of headwork to build a boosted motor...

heres some quick things off the top of my head:
i am growing weary now, that is all for now till after i take a nap.
no need for blue printing, port and polishing (stock porting job is good enough and you dont want to polish the intake side of the head. i would recommend just port matching the intake side.) flow bench is not needed, anyone that rebuilds an engine, stock or not, knows you need to deck it and boring or not, honing is another one of those things that you should always do.06sik20z3;74560 wrote:balance and blue printed, port and polished, flow benched, decked and honed, is all work i would recomend.
i second this motion.Spork;74561 wrote:my opinion: "you don't need to" just means that you could get away without it... so why not just get it done as insurance?
maching is always expensive, unless you have a hookup somewhere. i know a place that will bore, hone, and balance for right around $500. pm me if you want to know more.SilverStreak;74562 wrote:The only reason why I'm not wanting to do it is because it will be the most expensive part of the entire build. internally balanced, yes, with the weights of the stock rods and pistons. even though the new rods and pistons should be the same weight, im sure theres always going to be a fluctuation in a couple of grams here or there.btlfedgolf;74563 wrote:Most Hondas are an internally balanced engine. you dont know jack about d series if you belive in this statement.06sik20z3;74575 wrote:who builds a motor with stock valve train
