F20B in a CRX

Post by UMR Racer »

My friends and i want a CRX to make like a autocross project car. We wanted to know if a F20B would fit in there. Basically we are all college kid so we want something really cheap. What would be the engine match for something that is cheap and fun in a crx. If not a crx what would be the best engine car match that is cheap and fun.

go with the CRX with a B18A. pretty much bolt in if you have everything out of a DA integra. really cheap and easy to come across. then the rest of the money can be spent on some dampeners and bars.

you will still need aftermarket mounts...

but, even vtec d-series (z6, y8) are really nice in crx's

turbo D, use a small turbo like an rhb5 i have 178 ftlbs of torque at 5200rpm and thats with a d15b7. a junkyard kit can be put together for a small amount of money, and you can use the rest of your budget on suspension.

i agree with d series for budget autocross, but not turbo, every thing i have read says that D can compete just as good a B in the road style races, and turbos are just not prefureed for the indever. thats why a lot of guys go JRSC for auto. use all of your budget on suspension. sway bars,LCA's, shocks/springs, connectiong bars (name slips mind at time) and light weigth wheels and good tires. then just get behind the wheel and have fun.

only problem though is that JRSC and vtec do not like to play well together in small confined areas, way to quick reving and peaky.

- jrsc on non vtec motors = yes
- jrsc on miata's = hell yes
- jrsc on vtec bseries = not a chance

but thats based of of what i have read and talked to alot of people about, basically for autocross you want ALOT of tq.

So if it was me building a autoX car i would FIRST see what classes allow what mods because motor swaps move you into the BIG classes and which also mean money classes. Once you have your class picked out THEN and ONLY then would i worry about mods and motors.

im thinking i like a B18B in a crx but is there any other car shell that would be cheaper than the crx like an old civic hatch. Just needs to be something kinda small for a good power the weight ratio.

so did you miss this part or are you just planning on building a car without a plan of attack ... or a clue?
