Welp... the times coming soon for me to swap engines..

Post by illusion »

This summer my main project was my Duster, hopefully once its up and running I can meet you guys at Bubble Tea or something still haven't met any of you in person and you all seem chill as fuck.

Anyway... with the Duster near completion and the Civic in the same position it was 6 months ago when I got the Duster, I'm looking to do body work on the Civic this winter and hopefully start the engine swap by spring.

What were dealing with: 95 Civic CX Hatch, manual everything.

Looking to paint it flat black, tint it to 15% all around and get black rims or keep the ones I have on it, 04 Civic EX Alloys, which actually look pretty nice. No rice pipe or indication of power besides the carbon hood, a sleeper.

As far as doing an engine swap, I'm looking to still keep this as my daily driver but aiming for it to run low 14s or better, The easiest, most affordable bang for buck that I can come up with is the Frankenstein swap.

I'd like some insight from you guys that already have something like this installed: How do you like its performance? Would you suggest anything different? Still use regular gas or upgraded to premium? What kind of compression could I be looking for this to produce? What kind of pistons/ rings / rods did you use or recommend? What transmission should I be looking for to accompany this performance-wise? Projected price for a built Frankenstein (or your suggestion) and transmission? Anything else that goes along with this; ecu, suspension, fuel rail, distrib, throttle boddy, cam, crank? Recommended web sites are cool too!

Thanks,
Kyle.

by "frankenstein" you mean an LS/Vtec or CRVtec build? Or like an F/H series hybrid... or a mini-me d-series? there are several motors that can be 'frankensteined'

as for LS/Vtec CRVtec info, check the engine tech section, I posted a thread with a few very good articles about them.

yeah, the CRVtec motors (what you are talking about) make very good power, they are just a little expensive to build since you have to get new pistons and everything in order to really tune it for any kind of power. good luck, several of us have researched the lsvtec/crvtec topic in depth, and some of us have put them together, so any questions you have that aren't answered by those links, just post em up.

best bang for buck would be boostin a d. but you can get some good lsvtec pistons like pr3's for like 150 if you look hard enough.check out b20vtec.com they got a lot of info.

Like Drowzy said, if you want bang for your buck, build a D. I'm no more then $400 into my D16Z6 block thats bored .020, decked .020, Eagle H-Beams, SRP 75.5mm 10.5:1 pistons, ARP head studs and bolts.
