cel help please

Post by 00gsr »

I have a check engine light in my 2000 gsr. the codes are:

p0137
o2 sensor
circuit low volts
(bank 1 sensor 2)

p0136
o2 sensor
circuit malfunction
(bank 1 sensor 2)

Does anybody know whats wrong with it? I recently had a high flow cat installed. And the car is not running in limp mode.

I would just but the new downflow o2 sensor but if its not necessary i don't see the point in wasting $200 on it.

Thanks Jordan

Well, if your "high flow" cat is just a straight through resonator, that's why you have the code. Your best bet would be to install an O2 simulator. If you want to go the cheap way, I've had good luck using some spark plug fouler deals from the help section.

Get a pack of the spark plug foulers out of the HELP section at the parts store. They come in a pack of 2. Make sure they are the same thread as your rear O2.

Now, you'll probably need to drill one of them out so your O2 sensor will screw in all the way. Now, screw both foulers together to make an extension and screw that in your original 02 hole. Some vehilcles require you to use a 90 degree fitting to avoid hitting the floor or other components.

This will work about 80% of the time. It's only a $5 or so fix so it's worth a shot.

he means this:

its on an ep3 forum but its the same concept, even gives you the part number for the non-foulers. you need to do this to fool the ecu into thinking the cat is still there and functioning properly a new o2 will not fix the problem...

edit: this diy is even better :) http://www.ephatch.com/resource/simthing/simthing.htm

they dont have to but i would reccomend it so theres no cel's. the ecu checks to see if the cat is doing its job and that its still there, say if you had that cel and you went to get your car emissions tested you would fail...
