lol for $500 or less you cant really do shit besides a little engine management. I cant remember if you can do an obd1 conversion and chipping on a prelude or not. Prolly not, preludes are for some reason red-headed step child of honda. Look into a Hondata S200 you should be able to pick one of those up pretty cheap.

Well your light could mean oil change, tune up needed, low antifreeze things of this sort. Timing belt is prolly a 4 to tell ya the truth, If I was you I'd change the oil and do the tune up since some people seem to fib to sell a car and say oh these things were done ya know. It's standard maintance to do to a car when you buy it.

I'm not sure why you heard bad things about Hondata, thats one of the best possible upgrades for your car. Don't waste your money on an intake manifold. If your really just wanting to spend a little bit of money, convert to OBD1, buy Hondata s200, and get the car tuned. Anything else would be useless. Also, the timing belt really just depneds on how hard the crank pulley is to take off the car. Sometimes they come right off, sometimes there a bitch. Its kinda pick and choose. Anyway, GL with the new 'Lude.

h22s have a balance shaft, which slows the process down

Why are they the "red-headed step child"? Dont most people put these motors into their cars?shinigami;39840 wrote:lol for $500 or less you cant really do shit besides a little engine management. Yeah me and a friend are gonna try and do the timing belt, water pump, and the works in a couple weeks. We'll see how it goes. Guess i'll look into the Hondata stuff.
What exactly is the OBDII? Just a better computer to work with?

ok for you lude's
first of all if im not mistaken the h22's have frp sleeves in them. which means you turbo the stock sleeve your going to shread your sleeves and cause catistrophic failure in the block and combustion chambers. neone wanna fight with me on it you can but i know this as a fact. and on the stock sleeves your not going to want aftermarket pistons in it until you re sleeved. its like taking a rock to a window. and yes i believe that theres people out there doing it and if works for ya great im happy for you but from experience not a good idea
why rub your car when you can stroke the engine

Hey Adam i would honestly go with a HondataS200 EMS for the vehicle. You'll notice the difference when you drive plus it makes the car over all more fuel efficient and run better. I would estimate $250 for the EMS w/out boost options and another $200 for tuning. Let me know if you decide to go this route and need a tuner.

Couple Questions
Preludes do have balancing shafts, and i'm not knocking Hondata its just hard to find a person who will actually tune a hondata system.
OBDII is an emissions control system in all cars from 1997 and up. What it does is the computer (ecu [electronic control unit]) reads all of the sensors in the intake, exhaust, vtec solenoid [spool valve to be correct], knock sensors, etc etc, and it decides how much fuel to put into the motor judging by how much air is going in and out of the motor and how rich or lean it is burning. There are 3 OBD (on board diagnostic) systems on hondas.
OBD0 (no actual OBD) is for pretty much all cars 91 and prior, it has no true emission control sensors, and its mostly just there to pump the fuel injectors at the right time!
OBD1 is on all cars 92-96 (with the exception of when the model changes happened) This is the first true OBD system, it is considered to be the best to tune with because, it is chippable, it is simple to read, and you don't have to worry about scanners in the emissions control places!
OBD2 is in all cars from 1997 to present, it is generally not considered to be chippable (except for the K-pro), and has much tighter emissions controlls on it. To tune an OBD2 car you have to get some kind of piggyback or standalone management sytem.
And there is my early morning tech dump.
any other questions?
