Alright i bought a 98 Prelude end of last week, and i'm one of those people thats just waiting on something to mess up. So i have a few questions since i'm new to that whole Honda world.
When does vtec usually kick in, Rpm wise? Its going from 5500-7000.... just wanna make sure thats right.
On a scale of 1-10 (10 being the hardest)....how hard of a job is it to do a timing belt change on these cars? The "Maintenance Required" light just came on..... i assume thats what its all about. I hear its quite pricey to take it somewhere to be done.
Last but not least, are there any easy/cheapish ways to give these things a little more juice? No nitrous, and hear bad things about the Hondata vtec/rpm change. It has a Injen Intake, DC Header, 2.5 exaust and some sort of cannon muffler..... would love to make this thing a mid-low 14sec car so i could play in it a little more.
Thanks,
Adam

This light is telling you that it is at the 3k mile oil change interval. You reset it after every oil change. It's essentially a reminder for you.Reaper;39748 wrote: The "Maintenance Required" light just came on..... i assume thats what its all about. I

What lite comes on for the timing belt? I was doing a little reading in the owners manual and it says a light does come on. Just wanna know what to look out for. It has 130k on it and i have no idea if the 105k mile tune up has been done.

I've never actually heard of a light coming on for the timing belt change. I know that they just recommend that you do it at a certain time.

I have a 5th gen like yours my vtec engages at 5200rpms. Unfourtanetly theres no light for the timing belt and the indicator light turns to yellow then red. It is set on a mile timer so every time you change your oil reset that with your key.
For a little more power you could go intake mani, throttle body, cams. How much are you looking to spend for that little power. You can go on www.preludpower.com there is TONS of information on there.

lookin to spend as little as possible. Honestly to me, all the stuff for these cars are about half the price of stuff for my stang anyway. Lookin to spend.... i dunno $500 or less. Would like to do an intake manifold, but i dont know what else i'd have to change to support it???? Head swap? Does chipping these things make any difference?
Thanks for the link!

Dont really want 2 turboed cars, then in 2 more years i'd have to buy another car for reliability and MPG.

$500 or less, you say? Just get the bottle. As I recall, there were a few people in Springfield that ran nitrous on their Preludes, you you might want to ask around on the local boards there.
