d series top end

Post by 97slvrhatch »

So i did a y8 motor an trans swap on my 97 cx hatch over the summer. it runs awesome in first and second gear but as soon as i shift into third it feels like it looses a lot of power. its mainly stock i just have 4-2-1 header, megan highflow cat and no name n1 style catback, fidanza flywheel, exedy clutch and cai. is this normal? do d-series just not have great topend? is there anything i can do to see improvements other than a turbo?

the long gears might play a part in what you feel. granted the ex transmission is the shortest geared d series trans IIRC, but they are by no means short. so that plus the fact they make no power doesnt help. boost it
i may not be "logical" but at least i can change my oil...

Yea 30 in first and 60 in second isn't very short but its better than the old cx tranny it did 40 in first and 70 in second lol.
