This is true. I still don't feel VTEC, but I heard iVTEC with 3psi tonight in JesSi's car. It sounds like a baseball card in bicycle spokes LOL90CivicEx;26852 wrote:True story, ask Rob he knows nothing about Vtec cause he doesn't feel it kick in.

Newb question about a vTec.
yes VTEC can be boosted, but VTEC was designed for natural aspriation power. VTEC lobes have a higher lift and longer duration, which for a turbocharged car is NOT what you want, so theoretically a non-VTEC will respond to boost better than a VTEC engine.

Newb question about a vTec.
instead of jumping on here saying that you are new to the "ricer" scene, why dont you just state that you are an old school muscle car guy that doesnt even understand the principles of "vTec". i hope your knowledge of older cars is a little better than your knowledge of cars that are 20 years old now. What V-Tec acclompishes is basically that of to seperate camshafts, like having a stock, fuel efficient cam until 4400 rpm's, then it switches to a more aggresive cam profile that gives you the power of a race style cam. a V-Tec controller allows you to lower and raise when V-Tec engages, some like it higher, some uneducated people lower it. it is essentially the best of both worlds, fuel economy, and having enough power to beat a mustang gt from a roll on the highway.(i didnt mean brand new gts, they are actually fast.)7illusion7;26814 wrote:New to the ricer scene, but have knowledge of older cars, which is why my question rises about this specific topic! You can put a turbo on a vTec motor right... from what I've heard the vTec kicks in at higher rpms, similar to that of the turbo, just wondering if its doable... I think it is, but I wana double check before I go reading and looking into stuff, it seems like a similar concept, except the vTec isn't air induced if I'm correct. A vTec controller and a boost controller in my cockpit, holyshitbatman.

Newb question about a vTec.
Why not just have the vtec stay engaged the entire time, or go from 0-3000rpms. I'm guessing its a fuel efficient thing, because it would make more sense if your trying to go from a dig to have that lower end power instead of after 5k wouldn't it?

thats exactly why VTEC was invented, to have good fuel economy on lower rpms but enough power to pass people in higher rpms. If you look at the Race engines though VTEC is eliminated most of the time in favor of a single, more aggresive lobe cam profile7illusion7;27363 wrote:Why not just have the vtec stay engaged the entire time, or go from 0-3000rpms. I see... Honda should make a car with a permanent vtec, I bet it will still get 30mpg!
