89 K20 CRX swap.. help me out...

Post by zrs6v4 »

sorry for all the posts, I just read the rest of your post.. I could build the b series and turbo it for that price, and it most definetly could be a great power package, but I think the k20 would be fun set up as well and fun to show off. I would say the k20 crx would hold its value more than the b-series built/turbo in case I ever wanted to sell it, hah.. its rareness or power.. and I am not sure what i want to do thats why I made the thread.. thanks for the help

as i posted on stlsr, alot more work then just throwing in some new mounts..

custom mounts
custom header
custom axles
custom shifter box

going to go kpro?
probably more........

personally unless your getting the motor for a very cheap price i wouldnt waste 3 grand on top of the cost of the swap for a k20 motor...unless it was the jdm k20a'

typically k20a swap will run you 8-10k after all said and done depending on what parts you use and if you/or a shop does the install...what it comes down to is personal choice...

spend 8 grand and have a k20 swapped crx, have a somewhat "rare" swap and something that will retain its value a little more....

spent 5 grand building the b series and turbo-ing it and making double the power that the k20 swap would provide, keep in mind theres more involved in a built turbo b then a k20 so you will need to tinker every now and again.....but 450whp>220whp

its all prefeerence, some people would rather pay more and have a stockish na set-up that is not seen so ofton, and not have to worry about anything, others would rather boost the shit out of a motor and make a ton of power

you'll need axles, wiring harness, mounts, and probably a shifter mounting box (karcepts.com makes one for the eg/ek/dc platform, but you'll have to mod it to fit the EF chassis) the reason you want the shifter mount box is that if you mount the shifter inside the car, you'll have to put holes in the firewall for the shifter cables, and hack up your center console because it wont fit back on with the k-series shifter box. all told, you are looking at probably another $1500 in parts beyond what you can salvage from the rsx, plus the jdm hood, and an after market header so that you can mount the new engine up to your stock exhaust(probably another $1200 for those)... then you got to put it all together, and if you are paying someone else to do it, thats more $$$ out of pocket (another $1500 you said). Money adds up real quick when you talk about swapping, just make sure you research the topic to death (honda-tech is a good place to start) and know all of the costs involved before you take the plunge

yea I guess its like everything else. theres always more to it than you plan for.. I agree and I am not mechanically inclined and never owned a turbo car. so if I went that route I would start off with the basic setup, hondata, injectors pump and run 8-10 lbs of boost to start. wow thanks for pointing all of that out. I wasnt sure if the axles would work. Im going to sleep on it and settle down and try to get a hold of someone who has done it tomorrow. any suggestions who to talk to?
