B18C1/C5 differences?

Post by RyanA »

I was only talking about engine. Trans is completely different gear ratios and has the lower final drive. Exhaust manifold, exhaust itself, ECU, and tons more things if you want to talk about the whole car.

Yes, a C5 head bolts right on. It will drop your compression a couple points by doing so. Honestly, all motor, a C1 will make more power with the C1 head and intake than it would with a C5 head and intake. More compression, IAB's, etc. If you want to do budget to make power, do header, cold air, cams. IF you want to boost, going with a B16/ITR head is a good idea as it drops the compression just enough to make the engine more reilable with a good tune.

Stock to stock, GSR is 180 hp whereas the Type R is 195-200.

Don't let the HP game get the best of you, though. I know of a stock internal B18C (GSR) that made ITR numbers. Only had an intake manifold, cold air, header, and exhaust....

honestly for the money you would be better off going with a b18c1 or b18c rather than spending all that money on a b18c5.

For the money you would invest in a c5 you could make gsr have just as much whp as a ITR with just some simple bolt ons...

For instance, my b18c put down 158whp with just some simple bolt ons, if i remember right ryan had a ITR down at the lake that dynoed out 170whp. Thats only 12whp more than my basically stock b18c. Now if i had some CTR or ITR cams with a good tune it would probably hit about 175whp prob. a little less....

Just a little info you might be interested in...

Wait?! What?

My bone stock B16A with just some simple bolt ons, Ractive short ram and cat back exhaust, made 157whp...

The B18C5 build I currently have should be finished and back on the streets soon and I should be able to tell you where that is... I trust in Dale and RyanA.

Im guessing that was on a dynojet where you made 157whp....
A mustang dyno reads MUCH lower than a dynojet

If you plan on boosting it, I'd go with the gsr.

If you plan on boosting it, or doing anything else for that matter go with the C5. The head flows better, the crank is better, no silly 2 stage manifold. There is really no comparison between the 2. Bottom line, if you can scrape the extra money together you get the C5. It will give you a much better platform to work from.
