Most Odd Engine Problem..Need Help

Post by 99ebpSi »

Hey Guys,

I have a 99 Civic Si with 115,000 and it has recently begun to have several issues (the first 6 years or so were great). The major one that recently developed is while driving usually above 4000 rpms and usually above 40 mph I can feel, through the gas pedal, almost as if my car is running on a flat tire (but much more subtle than that). It is a certain roughness when pressing the gass pedal, which lets up when I let up off the gas. My brother has a '00 VR6 GTI and he had a similar problem that was fixed by changing the spark plug wires. I took his advice and did that, since mine were original. I also changed my spark plugs at the same time. It seemed to diminish the problem at first, but now 2 days later, it is just as bad, if not worse than before. Has anyone had this issue or run into this problem? Any help you can provide would be awesome! Also, if you know of any great Honda shops please let me know. It seems every shop I have ever taken my car into knows what they are doing well enough to get by, but no one is fantastic!

Thanks For Your Help,

Well, I've never had a full tune up. What's involved in one? I have stayed on top of regular maintenance. I've replaced the fuel filter, spark plugs & wires, cleaned the air filter and changed the oil regularly. I also recently replace my upstream O2 sensor because it went out. I just don't want to take it in for a tune up and pay for them to change stuff I have just done. Is any shop qualified to do a thorough tune up? I am so leary of shops actually doing a complete and thorough job.

Thanks,
Thad

the vibration could be caused by a bad motor mount. check all your motor mounts for wear :dunno: cant think of anything else right now...

I bet this is the answer http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/99-00-HO ... enameZWDVW

What do you think? There is no way it is suspension related being that it is RPM dependent and goes away above 6000 and was helped for a while by replacing my spark plugs and wires...
