I know on my old lude that had a H22 swap I could take it up to 8500 easily all day but I never did bc I didnt know this til I sold it lol. But I did hit 8200 on the dyno I do belive.b18b-t;13299 wrote:Well considering the h22a redlines at 7400rpm stock (JDM not sure about USDM's) I would think taking it to 9k would be pointless and very dangerous on a stock motor, unless you like dropping valves.

B-series vs. H-series
my exact thoughts.JesSi;13328 wrote:Not to bash or anything but it's probably pointless to take it to 9,000 rpms anyway, does it even make power above redline? The only reason I can think of to rev that high on a stock h22 is if it drops you under vtec engagement when you shift at normal redline, and it keeps you in vtec if you shift higher like at 9k.
Although I don't know, I am far from an H-Series guru.
just because you can sometimes go to 8 or 9k (depending on what motor you have) does not mean you will have enough power to make it there. and what i mean by that is lets say you have a 3rd Gen Integra Gsr (stock). Lets say the highest recommended shift is at 8200 but you can go all the way to 9k. You are not making anymore power past 8200 because 8200 is where your peak horsepower is. Going all the way to 9k will do nothing for you but put strain on the valves and other internals. So just because you say you can go higher than recommended, does not mean its a good thing. All it takes is one time to mess something up. There are discussions all over Team-Integra about this.

I never went to 9k while racing anyone I did it to see how far I could push the motor, and yes I was aware of what the consiquences could have been. Like I said I dont do it on a daily basis hell I dont even do it on a 6 monthly basis.

I take my H22 to about 7800...mine use to drop out of vtec when shifting into second only...3rd and so on are still in vtec...but I have lowered the vtec point to 5000rpm and have gotten rid of that problem...
As far as the weight of the h22...why wouldn't the extra weight help with launches? Wouldn't it help keep the front end from lifting so much?
But then again I know some one that stayed with a D instead on going B and ended up with 400+ whp...
but just my .02...

Depends what model of civic, if its in a crx or hatch, 170lbs can greatly effect the cars handling. Even if suspension set up decent there will be more understeer.Spork;12895 wrote:but how does that translate on a road course? would slinging that extra 170 lbs around be as unnoticeable?
The four door is a slightly larger chassis so in theory it wouldn't have as great of an effect, or it possibly could be worse because more weight pushing in corners.
Also if the civic is set for road course, a lighter, smaller, high reving engine such as b would be better suited. Its not about brute straight line torque, its about handling, power band, and keeping it there.
I have some jdm video called battle at 10k or something similiar where a track suited crx goes head to head with various hondas such as nsx, rsx, integra, and s2k. All cars are driven by top japenese drivers. It was a good example of small, well balanced power versus some heavy honda hitters.

My 2 cents. H series is where it's at. You can go with a B series trans for better gearing. Just ya, from what I remember, couldn't find the thread but practically stock H with the H2B adapter & I think b16 trans (dont quote me) some guy ran high 12s in a crx. This is from what I remember, could be wrong or off, couldnt find the thread (didnt search to hard either). Hell i've got like $1500 in my del sol & it's rwd with an h22. Haha. The new hotness is the B2D adapter plate. Crazyness. Ok this post might of sucked i'm tired so bed now. Haha.

b16b light powerful extremly high revving, h22a little more powerful, heavy, no as high revving, those are the kings of those motor series an i personally would chose the b16b, an i would aloso choose b series overall
