Not dogging on d series engines, but what is so special about them? On other forums I see people always saying that they are going to get a d series engine or one person tells another "d series ftw" when a motor gets blown. They always talk about boosting the d series. Honestly, IMO, boosting a d series is pretty much equivalent to a stock b series, well, one with VTEC. Is there something I'm missing?

one... you blow a d, it will cost you less than $200 to replace it. blow a b and its a whole lot more. number two.... you can find d's a lot easier than b's. d's have lower compression and can boost more stock. and a bosted d is a lot faster than just a b. ive never seen a b swapped crx hit the 13's let alone mid 13's like ive seen boosted stock d's in a crx. oh and a boosted d has a lot more torque than a b.

torque is what your missing hp is just a buy product of torque, all hp is, is how fast you get work done. if you have 153hp and 112 ftlbs of torque your gonna be able to get a little bit of work done pretty quick. now thats the case for your average b16 swap. now if you take a d-series with 153hp turbod with 150 ftlbs of torque its gonna get more work done in the same amount of time and its gonna be able to do a lot more of it which in turn makes it walk away from the average b16 swap. turbo d > average b based mostly on torque and price, and who doesnt like the sound of a blow off valve...

i was close... 14.5 b18c,exhuast,intake. in a del sol (much heavier than a crx)

i can post the slip if u want but id have to find it...

from what i heard a turbo d is cheap fun and a b will cost about the same but not as fun as a turbo d. then to turbo a b $$$$

Don't you have a non-vtec b in your crx?

Like I said, I wasn't dogging the d. I just never really saw the reason of getting one and boosting it. I was just wondering what the deal was with that. Anyone know the typical compression ratio of a d, one that is ideal for boost? I have a b, but thats only because I have a '00 Si. However, I would like to boost it, just don't have the time or the money right now. Thats if I don't sell both my cars first and get something else.

Here's the link for the D-Series Compression Calculator.

Meh Budget has a wanna be B-series, D.O.H.C D-series what's done to it I can't say but swap for swap I'll stay D-series no matter what, you can build a D16 or D15 as easly as a B16 or B18 with less weight plus lower compression. Also from what I've seen D-series react to mods like a totally different animal and I like that sorta thing.

i've got more experience...waaaaaaay more experience w/ a b-series motor(mostly type r), than d-series, but i love them both.

my ex tried getting me to put a b18 in, but i was dead set at boosting the shit out of a dseries(not MY motor).

they're cheaper by far, and i know PLENTY of d-series that are quicker than b-series, but at the same time, i know of plenty of b-series faster, either n/a or boosted.
