B18C1/C5 differences?
I'm pretty new to Honda's still, and I was wondering what the difference was between the C1 and C5? Can you convert to a C5 or are they a lot different?

cams, valvetrain, pistons, intake manifold, transmission and lsd, header. those are the pretty obvious differences in terms of performance.
yes you can convert to the itr. most people who do it just convert to itr usually do headwork and pistons

B18C5 has more compression too Allex... more compression means more power.
I'm still a neighborhood ASSHOLE!

more compression from.... having different pistons/head(the entire head is different, not just internals)....99BlackHatch;134381 wrote:B18C5 has more compression too Allex... more compression means more power.
This post comes with a guarantee: I guarantee that I don't care what you think about it.

Ok, well are there a lot of people with GSRs who just keep the C1 and mod it the way it is? I mean, is there still a lot of potential to make good power?

You can still make decent power with the GSR. The big difference is the head. The C5 head is completely different. Slot of people dislike the GSR head because it is so different. You can't bolt anything to it except GSR parts, which aren't interchangable with the B16 or type R head, which are quite similar, given the type R head flows a little better than the B16 head, hence the "poor man's type R." The type R pistons are mostly what is responsible for the raise in compression, but the combustion chamber on the head is a little smaller, I think a little over 1cc... Maybe. Also I have read that the type R crank has 8 counterweights as opposed to the GSRs 6, giving it more stability at higher RPMs. Everything has potential to make power, that just takes money, time, patience, and knowledge. All in all the C5 head is better, but both can make good power.
Hope that helps.

Differences between ITR and GSR engines:
1. ITR and GSR use different pistons
2. ITR and GSR use different rods (ITR's have R's on them..) They are the same length but the R's are made of better metal and they are lighter.
3. ITR crank has heavier counterweights.
4. ITR head is basically a mildly hand ported B16 head (they share the same casting information) You can make an ITR head out of a B16 head easily.
5. ITR has dual intake and exhaust springs
6. ITR has larger cams
7. ITR has a lightened flywheel (cut on the backside)
8. ITR got 62 mm TB
9. ITR got ITR intake (duh)
10. ITR got a higher pressure regulator to make the injectors flow more.
11. Different valves. Different valve job angles to promote low lift flow.
The B16/ITR and GSR head debate has been around forever. Stock B16 to stock GSR, the GSR head will make more power mostly due to the GSR head having quench pads that raise the compression a few points. Also, the GSR head does flow just a tiny bit better at certain points. Both heads are good but as stated earlier, the GSR head can suck to find an intake mani for.

Yeah, I hope so. Now my firebird has an oil leak though, most likely from a huge dent/rust on my oil panObsesionWitSped;134471 wrote:cHADDDDD lol..still wanting to buy a GS-R, eh?
So does the C5 head bolt on to the C1 motor? I mean, I could just get a C5 head, yet have the lower compression pistons of the C1 motor, and have a great turbo friendly motor, right?
