THIS TOOK A LOT OF TIME to figure out, and it works now and I think this is good info for people wanting a cheap stock tach in their car. I don't have a honda-tech account, but I think it would be nice if someone put it up there. I searched everywhere on the web for a diagram, but everyone I saw was wrong...maybe my car was built wrong, lol.
Okay, I've looked on the web numerous times for this, and I see a lot of where people put 90-91 clusters in 88-89s, but not the other way around. This is how you do it:
There is an 8-pin and a 12-pin connector, if you have the clip on top and the side with the wires sticking out facing you, this is the order from left to right:
8-pin
1. black wire, ground
2. yellow/red, not used, but put it here anyway
3. empty
4. grn/red, e-brake
5. blue/red, seatbelt
6. red/blue, brights indicator
7. grn/blk, trunk indicator
8. grn/yellow, right turn
12-pin
1. grn/blue, left turn signal
2. yellow, switch/power
3. yellow/white, fuel gauge
4. yellow/red, oil light
5. grn/orange, check engine
6. red, gauge lights
7. red/black, gauge brightness
8. empty
9. black/yellow, switch/power
10. blue/white, battery indicator
11. blue, tach signal
12. yellow/green, coolant temp gauge

I realize this is really long, and might not get a response, but any help is much appreciated, I just want a damn tach on my gas sipping daily!

Ya those are the images I was working off of, but for some reason most of my wires do not agree, I'm the second owner and the original owner was like 80 when I bought it from him, so I doubt there is funny business. I read all the wires I haven't figured out with a multimeter so I guess I'll look at sensor output voltages to try to figure out what's up. Thanks for the reply, though.
