Help! ls swapped ed7 died and wont start!

Post by Q10 »

I was driving on some backroads and I started accelerating from a stop and my car died halfway through 1st gear... Didnt make any weird noises, just stopped running. I just pulled my spark plug wires, Im about to check my plugs. My fuel pump sounds like its only half priming when I turn the key. Any other ideas what could be wrong with it? Maybe the dizzy needs to be replaced?

Any help would be much appreciated!

how would go about checking for spark? I just replaced my plugs and wires today, didnt help.

As for a short, that may be possible. My fuses all looked good. My buddy was telling me it may be my main relay, would that make sense? and how would I go about checking/replacing that?

to check for spark:

1. Pull the fuse for the fuel pump
2. crank the car a few times to get fuel pressure out of the lines
3. pull the #1 plug
4. put the plug back into the spark plug boot
5. holding the boot touch the side of the spark plug to a good ground
6. have a friend crank the car, and look for spark at the end for the sparkplug
7. repeat steps 3-6 with the other 3 plugs

ok, my main relay (from what Ive read is the one behind my hood release latch) doesnt smell burnt or look bad. I changed fused #14 (which I read controls the fuel pump & ecu among other things).
Im waiting for my buddy to come over so I can check for spark. I can hear my fuel pump hum/buzz when I turn the key, although sometimes it doesnt make as strong of a sound. Maybe I need a new dizzy... Idk, Im running out of money and options :((

update:

My main relay is ok. He said the same thing happened to him when his coil went bad in his dizzy, but his had melted while mine doesnt appear (visually) bad. I could be wrong though, I know little to nothing about distributors. He said if I change my dizzy it should fire right up. Does this hold any truth?

If you dont have spark, yes. Dont throw money (parts) at it, figure out what the problem is first.
