Mini-me swap questions!

Post by Edison Carasio »

I have a stupid question about the mini-me swap. I've been reading this walk through of it from Honda-Tech and I'm confused on one thing.

The walk throughs I've seen reference a D15B7 with a D16Z6/Y8 head. Is the D15B7 the only D15 block I can use, or could I mate the head to my D15B2 (Civic/CRX DX engine)? I have a D15B2 in my CRX and a bare D15B2 block sitting in my house and wanted to use it, but just wanted to make sure ALL D15B blocks would work before proceeding to spend monies.

Yep. Any SOHC D-Series block so long as the pistons have provisions for all 16 valves.

not necessarily, i have removed rockers from an a6 head in order to use it on a d15b6 (HF motor) i modified the a6's valve train with parts from the b6's, ran it off an pm6 ecu, the engine was in boner's crx we called it the hf/si, lol. it ran awesome, was one of those things we did just to do, i wouldnt recommend doing it something you wanted to last :)

you are correct though 16 valve block 16 valve head, should have mentioned that.

I know. I thought of that motor while I posted that and laughed. Then realized that no one should ever do that so I just left it out hoping no one would get the idea. :rocklicker:

I'm not trying anything like that, just a simple rebuild and learn process. Trying to stay as cheap as possible.

Stolle - I'm not doing the head swap on the engine in the car, was gonna build the bare block in the house and since I need a head for it, figured I'd just get the VTEC head and build the mini-me engine outside of the car and save it for when the one in the car goes kablooey.

Do you still think I should do the MPFI swap on the engine in the car first?
