What are you wanting to do to the engine?
What are you expecting from the engine?

And the $400 I'm sure only covers the engine. There is the whole...
  • axles
  • transmission
  • shift linkage
  • motor mounts
  • wiring harness
  • ECU
  • exhaust header and will it bolt up to your current exhaust
  • condition of the engine and does any repair work need to be done
Just some things to think about...
I'm still a neighborhood ASSHOLE!

not worth it unless you have a ton of money to put towards an LS/VTEC conversion done right

I personally like the ls motor. Good platform to start with. Does it come with anything else?

The LS is a great motor. Usually one of the cheaper B motors to buy. It has alot of potential for boost.

Really you need to decide what your goals are, and go from there.

D16a1's are junk. They dont even bolt in to 88+ Cars anyways. Keep the B18.
