A/C Issues...

Post by Digital Sol »

hmm well after alot of headaches trying to recharge my a/c i finally got it 100% leak free, i replaced the r134a adapators, rebuilt one already because it leaked from the package', replaced the drier and valve under the dashboard, i pulled vacuum to -29hg...how-ever when re-filling it seems like the guage claims its filled to quickly and isnt really blowing that cold....

im not usuing a tap that just drains into the low side valve..its one that has a handle on it and a built in plastic guage...so ive got to hold the handle open to released the r134 into the system, i didnt even get 1 of the smaller cans in it and it read around 30-35psi so i stopped.....i let the car run for a bit and re-checked the pressure a few minutes later and its claiming like 90psi which is obviously way to much but in all the material ive read most peopel end up usuing between 1-2 cans of this stuff.....

i mean its blowing colder air than outside temps but its not really ice cold or even enough for me to really consider "cold"

for then record the car was on, a/c was on high during the filling process, vacuum was at -29hg, have maybe 3/4's a cans worth in there if that, i managed to snag a couple cans of r12 but i dont wanna waste them trying to fill this bish if theres an issue at hand

any info would be greatly appreciated

If you are starting with an empty system, just go by weight. The pressure gauge is just to get you in the ballpark when your system is partially charged. With changes in outside temperature and humidity, the line pressures will also change. I'm guessing the 90 psi you are seeing is when the compressor is off?

Like Brian said, just fill it to recommended charge and call it a day. If the condensor fan is not running, it will hit high head pressure and will shut off...

well as i was filling the compressor-a/c was on the entire time, i stopped when it got to about 30psi which is what i believe is the reccomended pressure, it let it run for a little while longer and re-checked the pressure and it read 90psi', that was how-ever with the car off...........

alright, ill re-do tomarrow, i appreciate the information, ill just dis-reguard the plastic guage, re-vacuum, and do just under two small cans...just didnt like the fact it was reading 30psi already and was only through like half a 12oz can......but clearly the lines are empty and it pulled -29/30hg and held it overnight with 0 leaks after lots of tinkering so i cant imagine there is an issue anywhere

just out of curiousity what should the a/c be blowing as far as temperature? obviously the outside temps have a say on it but whats average? gonna check that afterwards as well just to be sure

just a thought, did you add any POG oil to the high side of the compressor..?

OEM calls for 6oz, you may not need if your system hasnt been taken apart...

its never really been takin apart so i didnt bother...all that happened was i had to remove a hardline to bend it out of the way of the header/radiator, car sat for a while and i decided to replace the valve under the dash, clean it up, also replaced the drier unit and o-rings on misc lines and such, did the r134a fittings etc', the compressor was never removed or broken down, a/c worked perfectly fine before hand but i decided to replace a couple things before re-charging with the r134
