wierd squeak when turning wheel?

Post by DC_T »

A friend of mine has a bone stock super clean 2000 honda civic si. Yesterday he noticed a wierd squeak sound coming from the front end when he turns his steering wheel. He stopped by tonight and I was listening to it and I can't figure out what it is. If his car is in park and turns his steering wheel left or right, there is a squeak sound coming from, what sounds like the drivers side front wheel area. It almost sounds like the tires squeaking against the concrete, but we already checked that and thats not it. Also, it only squeaks when the car is parked, or moving slowly. Over like 10 mph it no longer squeaks. He hasn't done anything to the car recently except change the oil about a week ago, and like i said its bone stock. All we've done so far is park the car in the grass and turn the wheels (haha to check the concrete tire squeak theory), checked the power steering fluid and topped it off, checked the p/s belt and it is not loose. Anybody have any other ideas?

i would check the squeak with weight off the front end that would rule out any suspension parts it may even by the actual steering rack they do have bushings that go bad...

On my CRX and del Sol I had issues with the CV Joints squeaking... is that the same as the upper ball joint? (Sorry I don't know much when it comes to the inner-workings there)
